Helping End Poverty in Congo

Those of us working and volunteering at Grace Giving International spend a lot of time in The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Although many of you may know where DRC is on the map, you may not be aware of the incredible need the people in this country have for basic staples such as food and clothing.

Violence, poverty, and political unrest has created an extremely difficult way of life for the Congolese people. Surprisingly, when it comes to natural resources, Congo is actually among the richest countries in the world. The paradox does not go unnoticed to its struggling population.

The Congo is home to trillions of dollars’ worth of gold, platinum, iron, diamonds, natural gas, uranium, and miles upon miles of arable land. Yet, despite the richness of the country’s natural resources, over half of the citizens of the country live below the poverty line. So, why is such a rich country so full of poverty? It boils down to political instability, colonization, and exploitation.

Rich Land, Poor People

Known as the curse of resources, the people of Congo are poor, because of the wealth of natural resources. Imperial European powers have consistently exploited the country for centuries. Congolese men and women were used as slaves, villages were pillaged, a plethora of dictators, and disease and rebellion, has led to unstable political conditions.

Despite an effort to hold a democratic government, elections are riddled with conflict and violence. Despite good intentions by the people of Congo, the country remains disenfranchised, unhealthy, and extremely poor with an inability to take control of their incredible natural resources.

Giving Can Change Lives

Our goal at Grace Giving International is to help ease the toll that poverty has taken on the Congo by providing resources and hope to the Congolese people. Our volunteers have helped to build schools, churches, deliver food, clothing, and the word of God. Through these resources and faith, we are changing lives every day. Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Praise be to God for another month granted to serve in His kingdom. Greetings in the most precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Following the just concluded political rallies that intensified tension, it seemed liked were getting over the pressures that had covered the nation in the beginning months of the year. But as a nation we’ve again been hit by the second wave of coronavirus were over 800 known deaths have been registered. There is a significant increase in cases of COVID-19 and hospital wards across the nation are filling with COVID-19 patients hence the surge outpacing oxygen supply which remains a biggest issue in the health sector. In Uganda, almost every day the virus has reached a new and tragic milestone, more is being discovered about it and the effect it causes which is the same all over the world.

I would like to thank all Grace Giving partners for being part of our community and this serves as an update you on the road ahead, sharing what God has done in the communities where we serve.

Yesterday I received a call from Ms. Deborah Mwesigwa the president’s representative in Jinja District (RDC) asking for help. She said that Government is counting on Churches and None governmental organizations to help provide food to the vulnerable and starving families. We are doing our best as a ministry but still ask for your continued prayer and financial support. In solidarity.

Uganda Update

A mid the vexing rise of COVID-19 cases in Uganda, a second lockdown has been enforced as part of an effort to prevent the COVID-19 surge from overwhelming the healthcare system.

According to the recent updates, the number of cases being registered on a daily basis is in thousands compared to the previously filed numbers at the beginning of this year. Resulting from the government’s announcement of the lockdown on the 7th of June 2021, many families have lost their sources of income due to the lockdown and the economy has been plunged into a recession, with more households falling into monetary poverty, isolation, loneliness, and cut off from their usual support networks. For the poorest families, including those who do not have access to social protection, the situation is very terrible.

With the likely impact and challenges of Covid-19 becoming evident, as a church based ministry, we are thinking of taking a lead and respond to the Covid-19 related effects in the communities where we serve. It has taken us four years reaching out to a group of people often misunderstood, as being backward, primitive and for that reason they have been racially segregated for a long time; these are the Karamojong people living in Masese III one of the slams of Jinja. Recently, we had started penetrating into this community and a total of 70 Karamajong women had started attending our church two weeks to the lock down. Now they are calling the church for help. The possibility of these losing livelihood due to Covid-induced lockdown has left these women, who are daily wage workers, deeply worried. The prospect of no work and no income is scary for them as it has driven their families to starvation.

This has indeed moved our hearts to help the hurting, hungry, and vulnerable in this lockdown period.

The Importance of Education in Uganda

Those living in Uganda’s smallest villages often suffer from malnutrition, poverty, and hopelessness. Grace Giving International is working to help assist and offer relief to children and their families by building schools and churches, and by aiding with donations, food, and the word of God. We are compelled to make a difference in the lives of those who suffer unimaginable livelihoods.

While we are addressing immediate needs such as food, water, and clothing, we are working hard on several other fronts. Our plans for the long term include continuing to grow opportunities in education. By building schools and churches, we ensure a better future for those in the villages. By making improvements in education, we give Ugandan children hope. With the right tools they can escape the life they were born into and break free from poverty.

At Grace Giving International we strongly believe that ev ery person deserves to have a chance to live a better life. We feel that every child should have an equal chance at education, and it is our goal to see that we empower these impoverished communities to unlock their potential. We are passionate about our efforts and can see a difference in our work. With your generous donation, we can continue to dedicate our time and energy to our cause.

The Difficulties a Student Faces to Get an Education

Because of the limited awareness, narrow importance placed on education and need for children to help the family work, approximately just one in every four Ugandan children enrolled in primary school makes it to secondary school. And less than half of those students who finish primary school can read. Additionally, children with disabilities are left out of any formal education. Only a quarter of adolescents are enrolled at the secondary level. Factors such as school fees, abuse in school, and teenage pregnancy keep children, especially girls, out of school.

Even the school environment itself plays a large role in keeping children une ducated. A lack of standard hygiene necessities such as sinks, and toilets, and sexual abuse, are extremely unfortunate circumstances for young people hoping to get an education. Our goal at GGI is to not only build schools and provide necessary equipment to run them properly, but to work with the government to build a safe and adequate education system for all.

By placing a greater emphasis on education while managing and coordinating curriculum with the local government, GGI has the potential to increase the quality and sustainability of education for Uganda’s most vulnerable children. Update: Emergency Relief to the Community June 2021

Greetings from Goma Democratic Republic of Congo.

Thank you so much for your emergency relief support to our Community during the volcano eruption situation of May 22nd, 2021 in Goma. God bless you abundantly.

The funds you sent on June 2nd, were confirmed to be received the next day, but our bank was closed following the earthquakes problem in the town.

I was able to pick the funds on June 8th, and the distribution of the assistance to the Community at our church location took place on Saturday, June 12, 2021.

The emergency funds of $2,000.00 received in the account were $1,970.00 and the picked amount, minus the bank fee, was $1,920.00 .

The money was used to purchase food to assist 65 families with:

25 kg of maize flour each ($15.00)

10 kg of beans each ($8.00)

2.5 liters of cooking oil each ($6.00)

1 plastic bag of salt each ($0.3) .

Those who were assisted are the most affected by the volcano eruption, those having the displaced people in their homes and were short of food and in great needs.

In the conditions we are living in, the food distributed can last two days if it is the only food they have in the larger families (include displaced people).

All these families have no electricity, they need Wood for cooking. They need water and they need soap for cleaning. Reason why we were thinking about fifty dollars per family (some cash for those other needs).

The good news for them is that those who get sick, the government is taking Care for them in the Health Centers.

The beneficiaries of this grant send their Thanksgiving to GGI and pray for many blessings to you all as you continue advocating for more support. God bless you abundantly.

Congo Mission In Country Director

Learn About Uganda with Grace Giving International

As we prepare for our trip to Uganda at the end of July, we want to share a little about this East African country, its people, and the overwhelming need for support from us and generous donors like you.

With half of Uganda’s population under the age of 15 and living in poverty, the country represents one of the world’s youngest and poorest places on earth. More than one million refugees have sought asylum in Uganda, making it the largest refugee population in all of Africa. Because of this, Grace Giving International is working to improve outcomes for low-income families. An emphasis on education, agriculture, and church for those struggling is our main priority. By helping those in need, we can ensure they have a greater chance at feasible opportunities to earn viable livelihoods.

Understanding Uganda’s Needs

Breaking down the devastating numbers in Uganda can help give a glimpse into why the country so desperately needs our help. Here are a few startling statistics that we are trying to change through our efforts at GGI.

● The population of Uganda is 44.3M, with over 75% of the population living in rural areas and working in agriculture. Close to half of these workers live on less than $2/day.

● Only half of the children have a basic primary education and just 33% of the people have a bank account.

By building schools and churches, our goal at GGI is to help educate the people of Uganda while giving them hope for a better future. Through our efforts to provide buildings, working speakers, school materials, food, and more, we can change these statistics for the better.

Creating Opportunity for Uganda’s People

Because just half of the people have an education and the majority of families in Uganda rely on agriculture to earn a living, there is a great need for both education and work. In response, GGI is helping farmers to improve their income through greater yields. We help them by giving them tools, furthering their understanding of agricultural best practices, and promoting their education

During our visit we will help to ensure that children can go to school by building schools and providing necessary supplies. By giving the parents a greater chance to earn an income, families are more likely to allow their kids to go to school. Rather than putting their children to work, they will get the opportunity to learn and better their future.

At GGI we help families understand the word of God, so they have a foundation to build from and lean upon. By connecting suffering communities with access to church and God, we are giving them hope at a time when they may lack faith and optimism.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I greet you all in the Name of Jesus Christ and give glory to God for an eventful month.

As we continue to endure the tough times to serve the vulnerable communities, I confidently trust that we have been able to live up to our mission and Christ’s call on our lives to reach the helpless. Thanks to the achievements in sponsorship development programmes and the medical mission programme.

On behalf of Fountain of Hope Ministries, I’d like to thank all Grace Giving partners for being part of our community. Thank you for your dedication and flexibility during these unprecedented times. This is to update you on the road ahead and share what God has done in the communities where we serve.

During this month of May, we were able to reach a total of more than 300 Ugandan people. 217 people were treated received medication, 13 sponsored children followed and updated, 100 couples equipped , 38 believers baptized.

I am grateful to all our partners, donors, sponsors and volunteers for the continued partnership, support and prayers. As a ministry we indeed value your trust.

Medical Mission

What a joy to share the medical mission update with everyone. Praise be to God in the highest for another fruitful medical mission this month of May. In His providence, we able to do this mission, availing free medical treatment to patients in the rural village of Bedda, Kaliiro district. The team consisted of 2 medical personnel, 2 counselors (local pastor inclusive).

Throughout the mission, we planned and God directed our steps. 215 people were treated, 40 souls were counseled and made a profession of faith.

Praying over the sick and their medication

There are two ways God accomplishes healing in this world and the supernatural acts of healing through prayer were considered for each and every one, praying for restoration and perfect health.

Giving medication freely to the patients, attending and caring for them were prioritized. As a Christian organization, we are called to exhibit special care for the sick, the elderly and the oppressed.

Marrieds' Conference

The marrieds’ conference was a success with 100 couples in attendance at True Worship Church in Ndolwa. The purpose of this ministry was to structure relationships according to the Word of God.

Doing Our Part to Support Education in Uganda

Government Education in Uganda

In Uganda education is deemed a right. With ongoing help and assistance from the Global Partnership for Education and aid from the World Bank, the Uganda government is continuously working to promote education. Unfortunately, despite the support, the education system struggles tremendously. Low secondary school enrollment, not enough schools, and management inconsistencies make the education system futile.

Additional issues have come to light from an influx of over a million refugees arriving in the country, half of whom are children. Space has now become a critical factor facing the future of education. The nation has launched efforts to help children, especially young girls, stay in school but the flawed system makes these initiatives difficult to obtain. GGI has made it their mission to help Uganda through selfless volunteers and generous donors. By building private schools, providing supplies to the landlocked nation, and other essential resources, GGI is effectively helping to strengthen Uganda’s education system. The following facts are significant to understand the continuing need to develop education throughout the struggling nation.

Education is Important for an Opportunity for a Better Life

A better education system will lower poverty. Eliminating deprivation will not happen overnight, but every bit helps. Statistics show that ninety-two percent of Uganda’s poor population lives in rural areas while 89 percent of the land is categorized as rural. Therefore, poverty is extremely widespread and severe. For that reason, it is no surprise that that national adult literacy rate is close to 70 percent while that of the young is nearly 90 percent. At GGI our hope is to improve these numbers and not have them continue to soar. The disparity in the country contributes to poverty, and the broken education system offers almost no opportunity for young people to have a chance of pursuing careers.

Due to the shortage of school facilities, the attendance rate drops from 90 percent in primary school to below 25 percent in secondary schools. GGI continues to make strides in education by building schools and providing the necessary supplies needed to effectively educate the nation’s children. Despite highly valuing education, internal issues within the nation have slowed improvement or growth. More funding is needed and is a key driver in fueling the education system. Uganda relies on aid from organizations like GGI to help. Funds from our donors help build schools, provide supplies, and ensure teachers get paid. In many cases delayed or low pay for teachers means teachers leave for higher paying jobs or take on second jobs.

Understandably, the steps required to develop a better education system may seem staggering, but with your help, our goal gets closer every day. Our initiatives to refine education, curriculum, and teaching standards include basic needs such as reliable electricity to each school. HEAR FROM OUR MINISTRY DIRECTOR

Friends,

I greet you in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We sincerely thank and acknowledge you for your incredible generosity and ongoing support.

On behalf of Fountain of Hope Ministries, I’d like to thank all Grace Giving partners for being part of our community. Throughout this time of unprecedented uncertainty and challenge, as we continue to be emotionally divided by innumerable social and political upheavals, by God’s grace we have adapted to the new reality and below is our report ending April 2021.

Over the course of the month of April, 39 theology students were equipped, 13 children dedicated to the Abba Father, 169 candidate students prepared to sit for their final exams, 27 families dispensed with correct medication and 30 souls confessed Jesus as Lord and savior now members of the new church plant in Buvuma Island.

Thanks for prayerfully considering to partner with this ministry that God has called us too. I hope you consider making a deductible gift to further the Fountain of Hope’s capacity to serve the community.

Theology School

Since March 2020, the Church in Uganda has experienced the COVID-19 pandemic with its diverse effects. In spite of the serious crisis that Pastors and Church leaders are experiencing, many them have continued to see the need of theology and pastoral guidance as a remedy to explain to their various flocks that this is not the worst the world has ever experienced therefore calling upon God and taking responsible actions is key .

Adjusting how we do theological training during COVID-19 was not easy. However, the just concluded four weeks of intensive theology studies was an opportunity for many to re-imagine what it means to be a Church leader who cares for their congregation and community.

We are grateful to God for the way HE supported the Theological School during this time, it was a source of joy for everyone.

Theology Education

The previously delayed theology classes resumed on the 5th April 2021 ended on 30th April with the administration’s deep commitment to financially support students in this challenging season.

Many students said, “I have never been through something like this”. This just concluded term, 39 students were able to report back for classes while others failed due to financial stresses caused by COVID-19 disrupting the business, hence slowing down life considerably.

During such a trying time in our nation and school, we have learnt to turn to God for our hope, our rest and our salvation.

Child Dedication Day

Child dedication is an important step in a family’s faith life because it sets a foundation that a family is known for following Christ. It was a joyous day for these parents standing in front of the church family and commit to raise their children according to biblical teaching. These parents opened up and authorized a channel for God to use their children for His purposes. 13 children were dedicated to the Lord serving a notice to God, the parents, and the devil that this is a special child with a special destiny.

Final Exams In Progress

As a precautionary measure to control the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the finalists were uncertain about sitting their final exams in the academic year 2020 because many voices were asking the government to declare 2020 a dead year for education.

On the 20th September, schools were reopened and exams for the finalists scheduled between October 2020 and May 2021. Both schools of Fountain of Hope (Primary school & High school) were able to prepare 169 candidate students to sit for their exams.

Seven months ago candidate classes were recalled to school and a lot has been done to prepare them for their finals assessment. A vote of thanks to all our partners who made it possible for us to adapt and be able to run both schools.

Medical Department

The ministry benevolence program has continued to assist the community during times of emergency. The medical personnel ensured that prescriptions are dispensed correctly and appropriate does for 27 families in the community of Waukuba -Jinja .

Church & Ministry

This newly Church fellowship that started under a tree is growing gradually in Buvuma Island on Lake Victoria with 30 church members . As a means to effectively advance the gospel in this unreached area, a plot of land had been purchased and our prayer is that God opens a door for construction of a church building.

Praises to our God

We give praises to God for all kinds of blessings that He grants us, to our children, to our teachers and to our family. Even through the difficult life, he let us feed the kids. Despite the problems of health, he heals our teacher and our children. The devil made a plan to break the school; we prayed to our God and he sent away the plan. I praise God for he let us move from the rent house where gangster harmed us every day to give them money. Praise to the Lord for placing people through GGI our way to help us to raise our goal.

We were concerned about the condition of the floors in our classrooms and school yard after Storm Laura, but God opened doors for us to fix them. Thanks to our donors at GGI!

Until now, the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) recognizes us, this is what allowed us to send our students to the official exams of 9th grade. However, to send them to the end of studies exams classics in secondary 4 we must first obtain the license granted by the MENFP. Therefore, we have to complete formalities, of which what concerns us most is a multimedia room or a computer laboratory. Thanks to the means recently provided by GGI, we are in the process of building rooms, one of which will be used for the multimedia room, but we lack the means to acquire computers for this purpose. Even though state schools are devoid of everything, they place high demands on private schools and sometimes penalize them for lacking. In fact, computers will allow us suddenly to facilitate research among our learners who, deprived of these means at home, are unable to carry out research and write the homework given by teachers. Sometimes we give them the computers we use, but what is not really practical ... So I would ask if You could find us about 15 computers. It would be a lovely help.

By providing food, shelter, and schools to those who seem to have no viable future, we have improved the lives of numerous families and their children. Through our faith, generous donations, and selfless volunteers, we change lives every day.

What Does It Mean to Volunteer with GGI?

There are endless ways to give back when it comes to volunteering with GGI. One way is by helping with new construction projects throughout Haiti, Uganda, and the Congo. These projects include building schools, homes, as well as medical and community centers throughout the villages. By having the proper building in which to learn, heal, and live, we enable the communities to grow stronger with the potential to thrive.

School Construction

It all began with a 10X10 rented building in Haiti with just four children participating in our after-school program. From there it has grown exponentially. Faithful volunteers have helped us grow beyond rented space and shared their talents to construct a school of our own. Generous donations, as well as noble helping hands allow us to help the children in Haiti by giving them the education they deserve.

Church Construction

With faith at the forefront of our mission, GGI believes that every person deserves a place of worship. For that reason, we have made it part of our mission to construct local churches for anyone to attend. Becoming a church family member is a special opportunity that many of the people in these communities wouldn’t have without the support of GGI. We give locals a chance to continue in their new-found faith in Jesus.

In addition to constructing the churches, we equip each one with everything each structure needs including benches and chairs. Music is a huge part of the African church, so we provide working sound systems as well as toilets for members to us. As you can imagine, church construction is extremely expensive with larger churches costing upwards of $50,000. Generous donations and helping hands make this unique and wonderful gift possible.

Undoing the Unthinkable Impact of COVID-19

What has COVID-19 Done?

The global COVID pandemic has brought tremendous stress to numerous communities around the world. A lack of food, essential supplies, and an inability to feed hungry children are just a few ways the coronavirus has negatively impacted many families. Throughout the past year and presently, Fountain of Hope Ministries International has been on the frontline in an effort to lessen the shock and help struggling African families. By providing communities with much needed guidance, education, and support we continue to tackle the unprecedented challenges in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, there are still limited resources. Due to this startling fact, we are working to mobilize additional emergency response supplies for our Pastors and Deacons to further develop community efforts and support initiatives.

Hardships the Communities are Facing

Facing extraordinary food shortages caused by layoffs and closed businesses, communities are challenged daily with a lack of resources, and shortages of essential goods. Because of this, these struggling communities rely on the assistance of generous donations. Many of the people in these communities live hand-to-mouth and yet are unable to work. Many have lost their jobs or simply do not have a business in which to return. Due to job cuts, sickness, and other conflicts, the members of these communities do not have adequate income to meet the financial obligations of their families. This leads to more sickness and possibly starvation. The local pastors feel tremendous pressure towards protecting their communities and are naturally distracted because of the current crisis.

While the pandemic continues to spread, education has also been hit hard. The education sector in Uganda is among the deepest impacted, particularly the private school sector. Teaching at Fountain of Hope Schools had to be suspended after the government ordered all schools to close but we are hoping to restart later this year. As you may know, Fountain of Hope Schools fully depend on the local school fees and sponsorship to generate revenue to meet teachers’ salaries and other operational costs. Therefore, teachers have been affected very much with the continued extension of the lockdown period. While our children are gratefully saved from the direct health effects of the pandemic, to date the crisis is having a profound effect on their welfare. Children are being affected, in particular by the mitigation measures that may accidentally do more harm than good as they face starvation.

Help From Grace Giving International

It is essential that these traumatized communities in Uganda receive the help they need. For many families, they have no other option but to stay home and remain safe. Churches, schools, workplaces, and stores are closed. In addition to fears of infection, many families are uncertain about when the next meal will arrive when they run out of the little they are surviving on. We strongly believe that we are change agents and are called upon to help in situations of trauma and tragedy. It is our duty to comfort and offer outreach in the midst of the pandemic. Congo Update

Like the rest of the world, the Congolese government implemented COVID 19 restrictions, closing the schools, Churches, and many of the businesses. Although the schools were shut down and received no school fees, GGI was able to redistribute resources to provide assistance to other needs. The widows received more food than normal and most of the orphans received shoes.

The schools and Churches were scheduled to reopen after the holidays, however, there has been a recent spike in COVID cases. This has caused the government to extend the closures of the schools and Churches until further notice. This extended closure also includes the Saturday youth Bible study that the orphans attend.

We are all praying for a better 2021.

Haiti Update

Our local Haiti Director, Ismaëlite J. ALTIDOR shares her end of year report:

“Like many other countries, Haiti was hit with COVID and it made 2020 an interesting year. Given the very poor health infrastructure available to the country, as soon as the first case was declared on March 19, 2020, the state closed almost all institutions, including the school that GGI supports ‘IRJ’. It was a very dark and terrifying moment. Unfortunately, we could not be confined to our homes because we must go out to find daily bread since the majority of the population lives day to day.”

“On this occasion, we decided to buy smartphones and an Internet plan for children so they can receive distance lessons from their teachers. But due to the lack of electricity to charge these phones, many of the children were unable to participate properly in these classes.”

“Fortunately, God gave Haiti a special look and the country is resisting disease. Noting that Covid was less severe than previously thought, the authorities reopened the schools in August 2020. Unfortunately, this reopening would lead to an unparalleled financial problem, because Covid worsened the economic situation of parents and schools. The President of Haiti has offered subsidies to schools to pay teachers, but nothing is being done for most schools including

IRJ so far.

Ismaëlite continues. “Our struggles were not over yet. After hearing we could reopen our school, Hurricane Laura devastated our premises and took away many of our teaching and learning materials. It is utter desolation. The school had to shut down again and we had to repair and buy back materials to restart. We deeply thank GGI for funding the repairs to the hurricane-ravaged classrooms and schoolyard.”

“Despite all the difficulties encountered, we had to continue to educate the children. We worked through the difficult situations with teachers and incomprehensible parents and the management of IRJ school and its team made great efforts to supervise the children. Our hard work and perseverance succeeded with the first ever promotion of 9th grade students with 100% of them passing the official government exam.”

Uganda Update from Pastor Robert

“To Our Cherished Partners, I thank God every time I remember you and my gratitude for you our partners goes beyond thankfulness for your generosity. I am so appreciative for your active interest in the work we do to transform communities and break the cycle of poverty.

I would like to express thanks first to Grace Giving International and all its partners for the support given throughout this year 2020. We were able to provide food to 858 starving families, trained 86 pastors, had at least 806 new converts, 2 new Church plants, baptized 212 people, gave food to hundreds of sponsored children and their families throughout the year and bought 15 sets of pastoral training manuals.

I also thank all our departmental leaders here in Uganda for their commitment to improving the lives of the unfortunate people. As a team, we are honored to continue to serve God in these difficult times and much humbled by the support we do receive.

Thank you for partnering with us to help children, families and communities overcome all manner of deficiency and helping us to stand up for the defenseless hence transforming their lives & communities. We are looking forward to your continued support and promise you to do the best and be good stewards of the resources given.

2021 Uganda Vision and Needs

2021 looks like a year of needs and adjustment to Covid-19 virus that is not going away. “Covid has changed things so

much” per Pastor Robert. For 2021, GGI is focused on helping Pastor Robert and Fountain of Hope Ministries and Schools with

building the infrastructure they need. This includes;

Building new classrooms that meet code and provide the social distancing required.
Building new teacher housing at the school to meet government requirements, support our teachers, and provide Covid safe environments.
Providing financial assistance to buy/build hand wash stations, face masks, temperature guns, more school desks.
Continue to provide Child Sponsorship opportunities to help less fortunate children with schooling and food.
Continue to assist families and individuals with necessities and the hope of salvation.
Continue to provide Pastoral and Bible teaching and materials to build up the Church.

International: Together We Strengthen and Support the Local Community

The Ministry Fountain of Hope is a ministry whose mission is to equip the church through well- trained leadership. The holistic approach ensures the church and community work together in an effort to strengthen and support the local population.

Mr. Kaweere Paul Introduced as New Head Teacher

On February 6, 2019, joy was felt all over Fountain of Hope secondary school as Mr. Kaweere Paul was introduced as the new Head Teacher. Leaders come and leaders go but the new Head Teacher which depicts a real spirit of integrity is one that we hope will stay for years to come. Mr. Paul appreciates the work done during the past years and was grateful for such a warm welcome. He has promised to work hard to take the school to even greater heights as he introduced seven new teachers.

Students and tutors of Bukeeka Evangelical School of Theology

The Director commenced his speech by welcoming new and former students back from a long holiday for yet another academic year. He thanked staff for resuming their work and for their hard work in the last academic year. The results recorded were exceptional. The ultimate goal, of course, is to make Fountain of Hope the best school in Kayunga district. He promised to build a beautiful and chic girls’ dormitory, a computer lab, and science lab for the school. He urged students to be serious with their academics, sports, and music for the best results.

Support for Children and Foster Families Through FOFM Sponsorship Program

One Wolf in the Sheep Pen Can Ravage the Whole Flock

The same is equally true in the church. One false teacher in the congregation can cause untold damage. That is why we have worked hard to offer commissioning meetings of willing Shepherds to Ndolwa and Iganga communities in the Kamuli District. The Ministry Director while in the meeting said that finally the search for the two pastors to take up the role of pastoral ministry in Ndolwa and Iganga following the ungodly conduct of the pastors who were serving in those churches. The pastors with their wives were asked about their willingness to go and serve God in the village and both couples were willing. Therefore, Pastor Apollo and the wife are to serve in the community. A pastor is not simply a title but a devote service and caring for their community through the hard times and good.

Youth Dynamite Dialogue

The True Worship Centre Youth once again proved strong through Youth Dynamite Dialogue (YDD). Though the modern church today, youth ministry is misunderstood, the youth at TTWC are abounding with healthy, God-given energy and potential they are able to “see it” and “shape it.” During this period, ministry to the youth offers such vibrant and thrilling work that is extremely significant to the life of the church. The young people were taught about Jesus as a kingdom business.

Educating Our Youth About Sex and Marital Commitment

Sex education and marital commitment has been discussed in various groups. The youth discovered that it is better for sex to wait until marriage despite the differing views on current sexual attitudes and practices. In the True Worship Centre the youth needed God’s grace to love one another exclusively for life.

Women Come Together for A Life of Abundance

The women’s conference displayed a fellowship opportunity created for women. Every year women organize a conference as a ministry with the goal of encouraging women in their parenting, their marriages, and in their relationships with the Lord. During this conference, there was a chance to make new friends, and an opportunity for the women to know that they are not alone. Every Friday during the day women meet and share God’s word, hear stories, and spend time in prayer and dialogue. The women also dedicate themselves to praying together every Friday evening. This ministry is an encouraging, comforting, and emphatic group of women in the community who go through similar challenging and demanding times. The ultimate goal is to devote their lives to one of peace, happiness, and fullness.

Church Members Support the Work of the Local Church

Having learned in one of the Sunday service messages about “who cares,” church members discovered their responsibility to support the work of a local church through financial giving. Christians should not only give of themselves but giving financially is what good Christians should do in support of their beloved church.

Successful church construction requires solid groundwork, particularly in their planning stages. While some pastors prefer to be the sole representative to work directly with architects and construction professionals, The True Worship Centre pastors chose key people to make up the church development committee who are well versed in finance and accounting.

Filling a Need Through Church Building & Construction

During this period, church member discovered that fundraising is not only legitimate for the church, but it is also a corporate undertaking. Paul says “let everyone” contribute. Once a true need arises, it is part of every believer’s responsibility to help.

Appreciation goes towards every True Worship Centre member who gave generously and also to the stakeholders and Donors. Thanks be to God for the willing troops who are obedient to the great commission.

Love for Uganda Abounds

When the motives are pure, the possibilities are endless. We have been unbelievably blessed by dedicated individuals in our Uganda ministry for Fountain of Hope School. They have offered to match up to $3,000 for the purchase of needed rainwater collection systems. This is a vital and precious need that supports our ministry and we are fervent about the possibilities. Our goal is to raise at least $6,000 to help sustain the school’s water needs that have exceeded the water well capacity. Water collection systems help provide cleaning, cooking, and toiletry water while the well provides the drinking water. As of today, we have raised________________ for this cause.

Our well-regarded partners and many others who have connected with us as a ministry have offered so much amazing support. We could not do this without you and are forever grateful for our beloved family and friends. The child sponsorship program in Uganda continues to provide the needed financial support to children who would struggle to attend school. At the end of 2019, our end of the year Student Dedication for those passing on to higher levels was held with the theme of “Preparation is Key.”

We also recently held a highly successful Youth Conference with over 700 young people gathering at the Bukeeka Church. It is truly a blessing to be able to minister to so many young Christians and those looking for Christ. Clearly our ministry is making an impact.

Lastly, our school construction project continues as we build boarding houses and school classrooms. Construction projects are difficult for us to finance ourselves, so we are deeply grateful for the support provided through GGI and their partners.

A Christmas Celebration in Haiti and Uganda

We celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and the birth of Christ in special ways in both Haiti and Uganda. Our Christmas program in Haiti is a special day for the children and their families. The children prepare for weeks to perform songs and skits, and the parents have the opportunity to hear the story of our Savior’s birth. They sit back as proud parents watching their children! Each child receives a special Christmas gift – for many of them it is their only gift.

Christmas in Uganda is about Jesus and His birth and for many it’s a day to go to church and celebrate. For some of our sponsored children it was a time of joy as they received gifts paid for by generous Christmas gift donations by their sponsors. Mattresses, blankets, school supplies and bags of rice or beans brought smiles to everyone.

Our $2,000 matching gift campaign was a great success! We raised $9,175 plus the $2,000 matching gift for a total of $11,175 towards our new school in Haiti! This is a great start towards continuing our reputation of providing quality education while teaching our children about the love of Christ. The children have hope for a better future as we provide them with opportunities that will change their lives!

Continuing to See God Move: Uganda Update from Pastor Robert

We continue to see God move in Uganda in different ways because of your prayers and financial support. Fountain of Hope Schools continue to do well in the national exams. Of the 57 seventh grade students who took the national test in November, 42 received “A” or top division scores with the other 15 receiving “B” or second division. Eleven of these students are sponsored. Thanks to the sponsors who have supported these students. To have all our students score so high is uncommon in Uganda!

Pastor and Bible Training

The Bible School continues this year with 89 pastors and church leaders. The government of Uganda has finalized their policy requiring each lead pastor to have at least a bachelor’s degree in theology among others. The law is yet to be enacted but most of the pastors in Uganda have no training. The new policy has awakened many of them to come to our Bible School. We now have many pastors who have enrolled and need your prayers and financial support for the training. Since the majority of pastors in Uganda are not paid, finding the money to pay for training fees or transportation is difficult and yet without the training, their churches might be closed.

As we rejoice in our Savior’s resurrection, we give thanks for the opportunity to continue to serve others and promote GGI’s ministry around the world.

Life Skills and Opportunity

Our Sew for Life classes successfully provide life skills and opportunity to adults in Uganda. Our initial classes were held in empty school classrooms but now that school is back in session we have no place for the sewing machines. However, a generous GGI supporter is providing a 1-to-1 matching gift opportunity up to $5,000 to help us raise the funds needed to build a sewing center so our community adults can continue their work. What a blessing!

Uganda Update from Pastor Robert

God has used GGI so many times to answer our prayers. Myself, Sarah, and the new church in Jinja have been in a month of prayer and fasting. Our main prayer request has been church construction and today am so humbled of how God has answered this prayer. (GGI sent money for church construction).

His Unconditional Love and Care for Us

Yesterday the rain went through the whole tent and I looked at how desperate the congregation was when we lifted up our hands to God for help. There are those times when you pray and beginning to ask yourself how is God going to do it. That is the kind of thought I struggled with this last night on my bed and finally left the whole issue to God. Reading your email this morning and the message it contains has really showed me God in a different way. He has reminded me of His word in Mathew 7:7 and “His care for us.”

God’s Continuous Goodness

We recently celebrated God's goodness for one year since the Jinja Church started. Thank you for the pole church construction money you sent last week. We had great attendance showing the potential the Church has to grow and their excitement for a new building. The money is only able to put on the roof but no sides, floor, doors, windows, or bathrooms. Thank you for all your support and thanks to our generous brothers and sisters who have given to the Uganda ministry over the years. May the almighty God bless you all.

Child Sponsorship Story – Rebecca and Darly, Jacmel, Haiti

Prayer Amidst Tragedy

We know that Rebecca and Darly love Jesus and that love radiated from them so much so that their parents wanted to experience it too. Recently, tragedy struck the girl’s family. Their father was killed when a sand pit he was working in collapsed. While they mourn for his death, they hold fast to the hope of eternal life. They know that even in the midst of hardship, Jesus loves them. GGI has been able to support this family through their tragedy, providing home repairs and showing love and kindness to the mother. These girls continue to work hard in school and enjoy their daily Bible study. Their mother recently expressed her gratitude for GGI. “I am so thankful for the sponsorship of my girls. I am feeling such in peace when they come to school now. I am most grateful!”

3-Day Training class on being Godly Fathers and Husbands helped address community marriage problems with Fathers coming from different churches to be trained on Biblical principles. On the last day, the men made oaths to their wives to be loving fathers and husbands and promised positive change in their families.

Sarah Sityo shared it is a beautiful moment when children receive gifts and scholastic materials. Books, pens, pencils, Vaseline, sugar, and soap were supplied to many students. The result will be good performance in studies and a better standard of living because some basic requirements were provided by the Ministry. Fountain of Hope Schools continue to receive highest marks on national exams.

Bible Training

87 church leaders and pastors gathered for Bible teaching by Pastor Kirk Hille from Spokane. Pastor Hille taught for five days and all those attending appreciated the gift of Biblical knowledge, friendship shared by all, and their certificate of completion. Thank you to all who contributed to the Pastor Training fund.

Pastor and Leader Training

Bukeeka Evangelical School of Theology, administered by Pastor Robert, continues to provide valuable education for church leaders and Pastors. Monthly Pastor meetings also provide continued teaching and support. These programs receive funding from GGI to provide accommodation, meals, teaching, and opportunities to grow in God’s Word.

Small Business Training

Fountain of Hope Ministries, supported by GGI, organized a small business training to enable the Church to reach out to the community intentionally through business. Twenty-five people gathered to learn Biblical principles of work, development of business foundation, operations, and meeting Customer expectations.

Financial Sponsorship Update

Child sponsorships have always been a foundation of GGI’s work and mission, and we continue to support hundreds of children giving them hope for a better future. As we continue to support our ministry and outreach work in Africa and Haiti, GGI strives for fiscal responsibility and to send as much as possible of your donations and giving as possible to our overseas projects.

I n fact, 100% of all “Designated Giving” goes directly to the designation! GGI raises non-designated money to help pay for the low overhead and expenses we do have. Overall, for every dollar given to GGI, 1.3% goes to credit card fees and 2.4% goes to GGI expenses. That is probably the lowest non-profit overhead you’ll find anywhere and we’re working on making it even better each year! Starting in 2019, all new child sponsorships increased to $40. This was necessary due to the inflation and growing economies in Uganda and Haiti. Our current child sponsorship giving is unable to cover all of the
expenses of providing quality education, uniforms, meals, and support for the children we are helping. Current sponsors have the option of increasing their monthly giving or staying where they are and we will find alternative monies to make up the difference.
